Simple, but deeply meaningful, heart tattoos designs can symbolize a multitude of things: love, friendship, beauty, passion and pain. The heart shaped symbol is representative of the actual human heart—a decidedly ugly organ in comparison!
I don’t even want to know what the metaphorical depiction of a brain would be; way too complicated for starters, and probably a bit slimy and misshapen. A heart design can be dressed up or dressed down; it is simplistic in its origin but packs an immediate visual punch.
Men sometimes mistakenly think that they cannot rock a heart or love themed tattoo. Something about how men aren’t supposed to have feelings or show emotion…. I will tell you right now, the heart graphic can be manly, sexy, and tough because a man who is in touch with his feelings is sexy, and a man who loves with his whole heart is about as manly and tough and as they come.
The heart tattoo design as a symbol is both a mockery of this pulsating organ and homage to its amazing life giving qualities—after all, pumping blood to the whole body is no small feat!
You might look a little squished and brown too if you never got to take even a minute off of work without getting fired.
If only the real heart were like the traditional heart graphic; perfectly symmetrical with two rounded tops conjoined at the bottom with a sharp point, blood red and easy to cut out of construction paper
The heart was once thought to be the intellectual core of a human being, where the soul resided along with all moral, spiritual, and emotional feelings. Although we now know that the brain is responsible for most everything we do, can you imagine if the brain was one of the most common designs for tattoo flash?
Common spots for small body art heart adornments include the hand, the wrist, the ankle, the foot, the back of the neck, the hip bone, the shoulder blade, and the clavicle. A simple, small heart works for singular heart images. However, highly stylized medium sized and large heart depictions look great inked across the back and calf.
A common heart design for a tattoo for men is the heart with a name inked inside it such as “Mom”, a spouse’s or lover’s name, a child’s name, or a deceased loved one’s name.
Putting a masculine spin on the heart image design is up to the personality of the wearer—try horns for a devilish contrast, a broken heart being devoured by flames for an ironic twist, or a heart with a cross for a religious statement.
For women, heart tattoo designs add a feminine touch to any part of the body.
